CD Review by Keith Joseph, Rockstarpix.TV

The second album from the trio known as The Exit really is a showcase of how much this band has matured. The first track on the album is a very chill, relaxing type song in which Ben Brewer plays guitar and does the lead vocals. A great opening track to really show what The Exit is really about. Gunnar plays his drums as if he is playing some type of tribal fight song showing slight influences from At The Drive In. The title track on the album shows another side of the band in which they play a grunge style of rock without ridding of their unique style. Jeff DaRosa plays a catchy bass line throughout the song and switches to lead vocals. This song showcases his very soothing, relaxed yet almost frightened voice, it brings him in the company of the likes of Nick Torres of Northstar.

“Back To The Rebels” is the fourth track on the album. It is a reggae/ dub style song that is very politically oriented. Brewer proclaims “It seems like when we get something special, we buy it up and sell it back to the rebels”. This is one of the catchiest and songs on the album. This song also shows that the band is willing to write music based on modern society and the place in which they live. They are from New York City and Boston so the 9/11 attacks hit them at home. You see many references of this throughout the album. “Let’s Go To Haiti" is the projected single off of the album. It is the fastest paced song also showing grunge-rock influence. The next track “Darlin” is a terrific song to follow. It is a really lax song that’s very catchy, filled with good transitions and changes in the pace of music. The next track “So Leave Then” makes you feel as if you are vacationing in Jamaica. The tempo of the music is soft and the steel pans deep into the song really make it a great listen and also shows their originality.

The ninth track on the album is “Soldier”. This is one of the most sincere and realistic songs. With the issue of war on everyone’s mind in the country, the band wrote a song from the soldier’s perspective. It’s very touching, and yet will send a chill up a young man’s spine or an elder who had served at one point. The song includes a harmonica, one of the lost instruments in today’s modern rock, which just adds more emotion to the song. DaRosa’s voice is at it’s highest peak of emotion in this song, hitting every note with an amazing passion. “Already Gone” is the last track on the album. The beginning of the song shows the use of keyboards and quick drum beat. The keyboards are played by the drummer, Gunnar. It is a great closing track for the album, it has great vocal harmonies and a catchy beat throughout.

The album shows much improvement from the band who wrote New Beat two and a half years ago. This album shows that a band can play great rock music that mixes many different types or rock music. The Exit show similarities with kindred acts Rx Bandits, Maxeen and also with Recover. This album also shows much influence from bands such as Sublime and The Police. This album is a great mixture of many different rock genres. The band didn’t seem to leave anything back with the album. The only problem with the record is it is complete with only 10 songs in which the band leaves you wanting more and more. The Exit shows great musicianship with this album and will soon get the type of exposure as they deserve for writing a great record.
